We have not made any substantial changes to this site since we launched it in late 2018. That’s a long time in dog and internet years. But in the past few weeks we have been implementing some new features and functionality that we hope will make your experience at The Cook and The Writer more enjoyable.
#1 – A New Coat of Paint
You have probably already noticed the new color scheme. It is the most visible part of a change to one of the technical components of the site. In addition to giving us more control over the colors, we have better capability to manipulate the fonts and the arrangement of things on each page.
If you have opinions about the color scheme, we’d like to hear them. We are a cook and a writer. Neither of us claims to be a designer. Any suggestions on improvements to the look and feel of the site will be welcome.
#2 – Better Looking Recipes
We have played around with the format of recipes on the site ever since we started, and were never satisfied. Recently we found a new module that allows us to present recipes in a better way. It also gives you the capability to print the recipe – just the recipe, not the whole post. Look for the “Print” button directly below the picture at the top of the recipe.
Update – 28 May 2022 – 10:15 Lisbon Time
After we published the “Holy Ghost” post today, we discovered a problem with the new recipe formatting module. As a result, we have removed it and substituted a PDF file of the recipe. While not as elegant, this solution gives you the capability of both printing and downloading the recipe.
We’ll keep working on a better solution.
Update – 31 August 2022 – 15:30 Lisbon Time
We spent several weeks identifying and testing an alternative solution and have just installed it here on the site. You can now print the recipe direct to your printer, or to a PDF file on your computer.
Over time we’ll convert the other recipes on the site to this new format.
#3 – Comments
We love the feedback you send through the Comments on our posts. We try to respond to every one. But you wouldn’t see our reply unless you came back to the post… and who does that? To help facilitate the conversation, we made an improvement to the Comments section. You can now check a box to receive an email when anyone replies to a comment you make. <insert picture>
The email notice is a bit rough, but we’ll pretty it up over the coming weeks.
