Where should we go to eat in Lisbon?
We often get notes from friends planning a trip to Portugal who ask that question.
It’s difficult to answer because there are so many good choices. However, since we want to be good friends, we’ll send a reply with a few suggestions.
But we’ve always thought there had to be a better way.
Now (finally!) we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite restaurants. We’ve eaten at most of these, but have also included some recommendations from friends living in Lisbon.
To help you find them, Mike created the Google Map below, with each restaurant marked with a red pin.

For each of the restaurants, we’ve added a brief note about why we included it. If we’ve previously written about it, we include a link to the post.
Google Maps also adds other details (if available), including the restaurant address, phone number, URL, links to reviews and pictures.
There is also a note about who recommended the restaurant. They are:
- “M&M” – That’s us – Mike & Mary
- “MK” – Our friend Melinda Kapor
- “LAGS” – Members of the “Lisbon August Gentlemen’s Society” – a men’s social group that Mike belonged to. We took some suggestions from them on where to find the best burgers in Lisbon. (These guys might exaggerate their skills at golf, but they are scrupulous about burgers.)
